Eureka Gold & Steam Engine No. 93: Where Bourbon Meets History of The West

In the western United States, legacy isn’t just something you talk about—it’s something you taste, feel, and ride. And nowhere is that legacy more alive than in old historic mining towns where you can find Eureka Gold™ Straight Bourbon Whiskey and iconic Steam Engines like Nevada Northern locomotive 93.

Nevada Northern Locomotive 93

Built in 1909 by ALCO (American Locomotive Company), Engine No. 93 isn’t just an antique—it’s a living, breathing piece of American industrial history. Designed to haul copper ore and passengers across the unforgiving terrain of Nevada, this coal-fired steam engine quickly became the heartbeat of Ely and sister town Eureka which is 77 miles west. Both towns are historic mining legends.

More than a workhorse, No. 93 was the soul of the Nevada Northern Railway, hauling dreams and hard-earned riches across mountain passes and into the history books. Retired in 1961 and revived decades later, this beautifully restored machine still huffs and puffs proudly today, delighting visitors with scenic runs and a full dose of frontier nostalgia.

Cheers to the Train That Wouldn’t Quit

Most steam engines retire to museums. No. 93? She got a rebuilt boiler, a birthday cannon, and a second century of service. Raise a glass of Eureka Gold to Nevada’s most persistent powerhouse. January 17, 2009, the one hundredth birthday of 93 was celebrated!
